SIRENS ACROSS PRAGUE: VEHICLES SAVING LIVES

In the Transport Hall of the National Technical Museum, a collection of historical ambulance cars from the property of the Emergency Medical Service of the capital city of Prague will be on display for one year.

The Prague emergency service is one of the oldest in the world, and the exhibition features historical vehicles from recent decades that map part of its long history: ambulances of the Mercedes Benz and Ford brands, but also a ŠKODA vehicle.

"By not disposing of selected ambulance vehicles at the end of their service life in recent decades and not passing them on to other users, the Prague emergency service has created a valuable collection of ambulances that have been operationally connected to the capital city. I am very pleased that we can present the historically most valuable ambulances from this collection to the visitors of the National Technical Museum, and we would like to incorporate them into our collections. I thank the Emergency Medical Service of the capital city of Prague for their cooperation, which I greatly appreciate," said Karel Ksandr, General Director of the National Technical Museum.

"While the heart of the emergency service is primarily the people who make it up, the ambulances in the streets are often its most visible face. Many of them have become icons of our fleet over the years, whether it was the Škoda 1201 to 1203 cars, known also thanks to the TV series Sanitka, the Tatra 613 medical vehicles, or today's Mercedes Benz 519 with a box body. We are delighted that the vehicles that served reliably in the streets of Prague for years and helped us provide patient care can now bring joy to visitors of the National Technical Museum, a prestigious place full of useful and beautiful technology," said Petr Kolouch, Director of the Emergency Medical Service of the capital city of Prague.

The exhibition also includes a selection of defibrillators from the National Technical Museum's collection, which represent a key element in the arsenal of the emergency medical service, as they allow immediate intervention in life-threatening arrhythmias, thereby increasing the chances of survival for patients with sudden cardiac arrest. A collection of devices from various manufacturers used by professional Czech civilian and military medical personnel in the field is on display.
